Komen Scholar: Dr. Regina Barzilay

Dr. Regina Barzilay is a professor of Delta Electronics in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT (Cambridge, MA). She is a computer scientist focused on bringing the power of big data and machine learning methods into cancer care and prevention. Her Komen-funded research focuses on developing image-based models for assessing breast cancer risk. She will use machine learning to analyze mammograms to predict a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer in the future. The goal of this work is to improve early diagnosis through personalized screening programs, reducing unnecessary treatment, and improving outcomes. She has been a Komen Scholar since 2019.
