Sun Sentinel–Wellington woman joins fight against breast cancer

Wellington’s Bonnie Kretchik’s effort in the Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure was symbolic of a survivor’s fight to beat cancer.

Kretchik, who does not have cancer, was knocked down twice at the beginning of the race, but picked herself up and finished second overall among all women. She finished in 18:48.41, beating her personal best by some 40 seconds.

“I know plenty of people who have been affected by it (cancer),” said the 30-year-old Kretchik, who moved to Wellington this past June. “I don’t have anybody in my family, but I have a friend with breast cancer. She just hit her five-year mark.”
